The UCSC Genome Browser added new ways to explore genomic data
On 18 October 2010, the peer-reviewed 2011 update to the UCSC Genome Browser was published online, documenting new search, display and file-format tools for genomic data.
The update described a gene search tool, drag-and-drop ordering for annotation tracks and support for BAM, BigWig and BigBed files. It also recorded new display controls for dense data and seven additional genome assemblies.
The paper documented a working public resource rather than a forecast. Researchers could use the browser to view, compare and analyse public genomic datasets alongside their own data.
